week 40

The final update of the School Year!

The weather throughout the week was cloudy, wet, and cool.  This didn't stop us from getting outdoors, however.  On Tuesday we were treated to a delicious lunch over looking the lake at Mr. and Mrs. Twombly's house.  Students enjoyed hot dogs, homemade mac and Cheese, fresh berries, and ice cream cups and cupcakes for dessert.

Wednesday morning we boarded the bus for MES again to watch the 4th graders perform Frozen!  It was fun for us to see our former classmates in this performance.

Thursday morning 3rd graders added the final details to the mural they have been working on.  It looks spectacular!  A huge thank you to Tina Lyon for all her help working with the 3rd graders to get this project completed!

Fall 2022 - Students from PA helped 3rd graders plan and draw the mural

Spring 2023 - the final product!

Back in the classroom we spent a lot of time finishing up projects and writing Thank You notes to the various people who have helped us throughout the year.  Our math focus this week was on Geometry. In Science we learned about how water forms canyons.

Friday we were treated to hot lunch provided by Kate and Mike McCarthy.  Students enjoyed pasta with chickpeas, homemade latkes, fresh veggies and cupcakes for dessert.   We managed another meal outdoors and squeezed in recess before the rain began falling.  We had our last fun Friday of the school year and ended the day with a Wild Kratts episode.

On Monday we will celebrate our final reading reward by having a Beach Day.  In the afternoon we plan to play games in the field.

Just a reminder that Wednesday, June 14th is our last day of school.  School will be dismissed at 12:10.  We will have our 3rd Grade Graduation that evening from 5:30 -7:00 in the school yard (weather permitting) followed by a potluck picnic.  Currently, the forecast is calling for rain on Wednesday.  If this happens, we will move everything into the Town Hall.

Please Email you lunch orders for the week.

Thanks for another great year at the Elmore School!  The families at the Elmore School are a huge part of what makes this school so special to teach at and go to school at.  Thank you all for all of your involvement: from donating firewood for ECO, to chaperoning field trips, to preparing Hot Lunch, attending concerts, open houses and other events, to helping with skiing and skating and ECO!  You are all truly amazing.   I will be sad to say goodbye to the 3rd graders and their parents.  (This is the first group that I started with here 3 years ago - 2 of whom I've taught since Kindergarten at MES!).  We have become more like a family in many ways, but I know they are ready to move on!  I'm excited for what the new year has to bring in the fall as we will welcome five new students to our Elmore School Family.

Wishing you all a fantastic summer filled with fun and family!

Week 39

Students pose with the Moose outside the ECHO Leahy Center

The last few weeks of the school year are flying by and this last week has felt more like summer outside than spring!  Student had a short week following Memorial Day, but we packed it with lots of fun and learning!

Third graders worked with Tina Lyon to paint their mural on the side of the shed.  Next week they will finish this project and add the final details!  It is looking so good!  A huge thank you to Tina for all of the time she willingly put into helping with this project!  The Mural looks so wonderful!  Also, thank you to Rob Bowan for donating paint!

On Wednesday we had a spectacular field trip to the ECHO  Leahy Center in Burlington.  Students began by participating in an engineering workshop where they learned about peregrine falcons and the importance of  conservations.  Then they worked with a partner to design a nest that would protect a falling egg.  After, students explored the exhibits with their chaperones.  The day was filled with delight and wonder as students learned about various animals living in the Lake Champlain basin, learned about invasive species, wind and water, physics,  engineering,  and more.  We enjoyed a picnic lunch in the park before finishing our self guided tours and riding the bus back to Elmore.  Special thanks to our Chaperones: Ashley Reynolds, Kath McCarthy, Steffany Mosley, and Caitlin Mahoney.

As the week heated up, we balanced outdoor time with indoor time in an effort to keep everyone comfortable.  Students played a fun game of  team Jeopardy where students had to answer questions from categories such as Phonics, Math, Science, This and That, History, and The Elmore School.  It was a fun way to review some of the content we have learned about this year.

On Friday, we had our last Library of the school year.  Students went on a fun treasure hunt through books Mrs. Boudreau read this year, then they got to choose books to keep.  We completed a science lesson  where students learned about where flash floods are most likely to develop and why.  In the afternoon the long awaited step-up day occurred!  Elmore 3rd graders visited MES 4th grade classrooms for the afternoon.  While they were gone, incoming students visited the Elmore School!   We had five visitors from three different schools joins us.  Next year will have three new first graders, one new second grader, and a new third grader.  Students did some getting to know you activities, Listened to a read aloud All are Welcome Here, shared about the Elmore School, and then did a name project where students created rainbow name plates which will be displayed at the beginning of next year.

Thank you to Ashley and Colin Reynolds for our family Hot Lunch on Friday!  Student enjoyed meatball subs and doughnuts for dessert (to celebrate national doughnut day!).

Katy McCarthy will bring lunch  (TBD) next week for our last family hot lunch of the school year.

We have a special treat next week!  We have been invited to Martha and George Twombly's house for a picnic lunch of Hot dogs and Mac and Cheese on Tuesday, June 6th.  This is old tradition that has not taken place since before the pandemic.  We are thankful to the Twombly's for their continuous support of the Elmore School.

Please email your lunch orders for the week (Mon. Wed. Thur.)
