Week 11

Our new school logo!

It always amazes me how quickly we transition from one season into the next.  This week we have entered daylight savings, bring the night darkness earlier in the day.  On the opposite end, the daylight greets us a little earlier in the morning making for a brighter start to the day (at least for a little while).  We were faced with some of our coldest temperatures of the season, along with some winter weather.  This is a reminder for all of us to be prepared with warm layers and outdoor winter clothes!  We will go outdoors for recess unless it is raining or the temperatures fall below zero.  Some kids have been asking to go inside at recess because they are cold.

The District is looking for someone to shovel for The Elmore School this winter.  This would involve shoveling both the steps, ramps, and walkways of The Elmore School AND the Elmore Town Hall (which the school uses regularly throughout the year).  If you or someone you know would be interested, please contact Lisa Cross at Central Office @ 802-888-4541 ext 5512.

We began this week learning about Veterans Day.  Students read a Scholastic News Article titled My Army Dad.  We learned what a veteran is and why we honor veterans on Veterans Day.  On Tuesday Students learned more about heredity and traits as they made observations about fruits to determine which fruits are related.  Students learned about the process of artificial selection to alter original fruits to make new fruits (and vegetables).  Then, on Thursday, students continued this theme with a lesson on animal selection and how so many different breeds of animals came to be as we know them today.

In art we began a study of color theory.  Students learned about the color wheel and how it is organized with primary colors and secondary colors, warm colors and cool colors, and complementary colors.  Next week we will make a collaborative art project (color wheel) collage with found items.  Please read the letter that when home in student folders about collecting items for this project.

Being that this was a short week, we will have spelling quizzes on Monday.  Students are bringing home their lists so they can review them over the weekend.

Paige Bowen will be providing our next Family Hot lunch (TBD) on Friday, November 17th.

Please email me your school lunch orders for next week.
