Students and teachers had fun dressing up for Halloween this week! |
Week 10 flew by like a flash!
Students had fun dressing up for Halloween on Tuesday. There was some pretty great costumes. We had a fun day with Halloween riddles, Halloween word searches, Creative story writing, cupcakes, and songs. The next morning many students shared stories about trick or treating and attending the Halloween party at the Town Hall.
On Thursday we were back outside at ECO! It was a chilly morning following our first measurable snowfall on Wednesday afternoon, but students came prepared with hats, gloves, snow pants, boots, and winter coats. During ECO students conducted a habitat study to determine what types of trees/living things can be found in the habitat. Students recorded their findings in their ECO journals with a graph or chart. During forest choice they enjoyed whittling sticks with peelers, playing a deer and coyote hide and seek game, making bracelets and leaf mandalas.

During our literacy block, students are editing and revising their personal narratives, while several others have started writing another story. Our phonics rules this week were consonant digraphs for younger students while older students learned the long e sound vowel teams ey, and ei. Students are also taking part in guided reading lessons where we work on reading fluency and comprehension.
In Math, first graders are writing equations to represent problems, second graders completed Unit 1 and took and end of unit assessment. In unit 2 they will add and subtract within 100 using strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and the relationship between addition and subtraction. They then use what they know to solve story problems. Third graders are finishing up their first unit. This week they are using arrays and relating them to multiplication.
On Wednesday we red a book called House Mouse, Senate Mouse by Peter and Cheryl Barnes, which teaches children about the U.S. Capital and about America's legislative process and how proposed bills become laws.
